Maryanne’s Birthday Gift

All Maryanne wanted for her birthday was a “Portrait” of her whole family.  The question was, “There’s so many of us!”  (26 to be exact) and how will we get the whole clan together?  The answer, “we wouldn’t!”  We’re going to photograph each  group separately on a date that‘s convenient for each family group.  And, that ‘s exactly what we did!

First things first!  So, we had a design consultation to set a plan in place.   Our hopes were to have all six groups photographed within a five week period.  We also scheduled time for sub-groups so each family could do creative individual family groupings and kids alone.

Five weeks later we pushed the shutter for the last time.  This meant we could remove all the carefully measured tape marks on the floor, light settings pinned with post-em stickers on the ceiling, camera info and prime lens settings inscribed on the wall.  It worked because it was carefully planned and all six sessions went perfectly.

Before the project had begun, we measured a specific wall above a vintage piano in Maryanne’s house where one of our previous portraits was hanging.   Maryanne had decided on a 20”x70” Custom Metal Portrait which would also be framed and assembled in our custom frame shop.

When the portrait was complete we delivered and hung it in Maryanne’s home.  We stepped back as Maryanne walked into the room.  Nothing had to be said.  It was Perfect!  We all hugged each other.

We’ve photographed Bill and Maryanne’s family for seventeen plus years as children, high school seniors and weddings.  Capturing all three generations was the pinnacle for Bill and Maryanne, and for us as well.  Happy Birthday Maryanne!

Red Truck

So, Cassy tells us about her “RED TRUCK” that she purchased and how it’s soon gonna turn into a restoration project.  Well it’s obvious it would become a centerpiece for her senior pics.  Her favorite clothes were mostly black, combined with black hair and pearl white skin tones, “Yup,” this was all sounding  pretty good during her design consultation.

April 10th arrives and so does Cassy with her mom at our studio.  Oh boy, another assistant, which I love, can’t have enough hands sometimes.  Cassy’s session was well planned and to make her session even better, a light layer of clouds was coming our way and stayed with us for two hours.

I was running around with the long lens while Nick worked our new 60mm.
I’m sure both Cassy and Jan thought we were nuts with our continual antics regarding the quality of light which was most certainly sent by the “PHOTO-GODS.”  These
two girls were having fun and so were we, positioning her truck, climbing on decks,
holding gobos and skrims, reflectors (occasionally) and of course, a bottle of water.

I can’t continue without mentioning the colorful individuals that you encounter on old fourth street including one gentleman that demanded that we take his picture.  So, Nick obliged, another “Award Winner” I’m sure.  Five o’clock arrived and the people of old fourth street increased in numbers.  It must have been quitting time, or simply another day playing “SURVIVOR.”  Interestingly,  everyone was courteous and respectful and some politely asked questions.

That evening I sent a  text message to Nick.  “Nick, thanks for a good day,  more to come!”  What a great job we have!  I think we both feel blessed for every day we’re given to do this.   Thanks Cassy and Jan for allowing us this opportunity!

Cabo Billfish 2012

Ok, “What’s with the fish?”  Since our first visit to Cabo in 1996, it’s become one of our favorite annual pit-sops to “RECHARGE OUR BATTERIES.”  As most of you know, our family likes to fish!  Here’s a pic of Nick and I with his first Marlin (about 140#).  Did Nick have fun?  Well, I asked him how his arms felt while we laid side by side at the “Beauty School” with towels over our head.  What’s the beauty school, you ask?  It’s one of the many secrets we’ve learned from our Canadian friends (Snowbirds).  The Beauty School teaches message therapy and turns “soon to graduate students” loose on tourists like us and it’s not bad.  Actually it’s pretty darn good after a day of “Zip Lining” across the canyon, ATVing or riding Camels all day in desert attire.  Most folks say, “man, is it safe down there?  Well, there are stories like most third world countries.  Ya just gotta be smart!  The Baja is considered the last Jewel of Mexico.  As far as we’re concerned, it still is!

Can’t get enough good Stuff

Well, we just couldn’t resist.  Talk about cute!  The best part was all the laughter during the session.  Little Mason had more fun than than the three of us and his parents.  A well planned organized session makes all the difference.  We can’t wait to see Mason again!  What a blast …

Kristen T.

There are two words that describe Kristen, sweet and pretty. Her smile, beauty and unique style of fashion was an inspiration to us.
